Building Up My Endurance

Yesterday morning Charlie and I needed a desperate change of scenery so we headed downtown and met up with my dear friend Susan and her little girl, Elizabeth. It was so fun to see Charlie interacting with a baby–she wanted to give Elizabeth a bottle and share her graham crackers with her! Even though parking is expensive downtown ($4.00 for a 2 hour meter!) sometimes it’s just nice to be out in the middle of the city and showing Charlie all of the amazing things that happen there. When Vann and I were first married we lived between Michigan Avenue and the lake, so everyday was spent downtown. And, it didn’t hurt that Nordstrom was right around the corner at the time!

After our friends left, we hit up Galt Baby, a new store in the Bloomie’s building that Charlie LOVED. It’s kinda like a mini-FAO Schwartz, life-size giraffe in the window and all. Our main reason for going there was to “test-drive” the double stroller I am strongly leaning towards, the BOB Revolution Duallie. Charlie sat in it for me and we played with it, folded it up, etc…and I was shocked at how easy it is to steer, you can do it with one hand and it fits through a standard door!

My dear friend Emily from my Mom’s Group and I were discussing double strollers the other day and she had a Duallie and adored it…she’s also a runner and has inspired me to explore running as a way to lose the baby weight after our little girl is born. I’ve never particularly liked running, but I wonder if that’s because I’ve never started slowly and built up my endurance…at any rate, Ms. Kim swears by it too and I’ve been told that the weight just MELTS off…which is a lovely thought. And, not too mention after we move we may not have a gym close by…it could be a cheap and easy way for me to accomplish my goals.

At any rate, I’d like to have a stroller that will be compatable for jogging…and the Duallie is fantastic! It’s pricey, but as our one big purchase for the new baby, it will hopefully be doable, especially with a little help from our families.

  1. i am a bob zealot! we have the single and have logged many running & walking miles… and when #2 comes along, i'm confident we'll go up to the double. the price does make this cheap-skate mama freak a bit, but it's been some of the best money spent on elynor AND me!
